Gary Shteyngart’s bestselling novel Super Sad True Love Story is making its way to TV. Although the show does not have a series order yet, EW has confirmed that Media Rights Capital is in late development on a television adaptation of the book, with Shteyngart and Karl Gajdusek on board as co-creators, writers, and executive producers.
The one-hour dramedy is set in the near-future and “explores the unlikely relationship between a bookish man stuck in a tech-obsessed society and a complex, materialistic young Korean-American woman,” according to the studio. “While navigating this romance he must also contend with mounting demands from his charismatic boss, who is himself being pressured by the domineering American government.”
Also attached to the project is Ben Stiller, who is set to direct multiple episodes. There is no network attached to the show at this time.
