Richard Bonehill, who played a Stormtrooper, Rebel Soldier, and several other characters in the original Star Wars trilogy, died on Wednesday at the age of 67.
In The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and Return of the Jedi (1983), Bonehill appeared as Snowtroopers, TIE Fighter pilots, a Tauntaun handler and various alien species, including Ree-Yees.
Bonehill’s death was reported via Twitter by the Truro Fencing Club in England, where he served as head coach of the Cornwall club for 12 years and was president when he died, The Hollywood Reporter reported.
The actor, an expert swordsman and horseman, also worked on the films Flash Gordon (1980), Highlander (1986), A Month in the Country (1987)—as a stand-in for Colin Firth—Rob Roy (1995), The Avengers (1998), and The Count of Monte Cristo (2002), as well as appearing on Doctor Who.
