HBO is continuing to bolster its comedy line-up with a new pilot from YouTube star Issa Rae and The Nightly Show‘s Larry Wilmore.
EW can confirm that HBO has ordered a pilot for Insecure, which will star Rae and follow her character as she navigates modern life as an African-American woman. Rae will also executive produce the show along with Wilmore, who has been attached to the project since it first sprang up in 2013. However, as Deadline first reported, his exact involvement is still being determined to reconcile that he’s now also pulling hosting duties on The Nightly Show.
Rae has explored similar themes in her successful web series, which include The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl and Ratchetpiece Theater. Rae’s YouTube channel currently has over 180,000 subscribers.
The show’s producers, which include 3 Arts Entertainment, are currently looking for a director and showrunner.
