But as Leslie Bennetts explains in our latest longform story, the tale of the innocent Anastasia Steele and dominating Christian Grey has impacted more than just box office sales. According to Bennetts, the real draw of the series is rooted in what it means to “live life in a female body.”
“Female infidelity is soaring; research shows that women initiate two-thirds of divorces and the majority of marital separations,” she writes. “The entire culture is roiled by evidence of our dissatisfaction with the status quo—and our growing refusal to accept it.
