Fuzz-rock auteur Michael Rault serves up 'Suckcess'

With the success of garagey singer-songwriters like Ty Segall and Mikal Cronin, the underground rock scene is becoming increasingly full of young pop auteurs, but Toronto’s Michael Rault stands out in a crowded field. Combining the blown-out sounds of the lo-fi movement with complex melodies and laid-back moods, Rault sounds like the second coming of cult pop idol Emitt Rhodes

On May 5, Rault will follow up the cassingle he released last year on buzzy Burger Records with a full-length called Living Daylight. One of its standout cuts is “Suckcess,” a fuzzed-out ode to dropping out and keeping cool that drips with glam rock swagger and plenty of hooks. You can pre-order Living Daylight here.
