Filming a movie with a number of sex scenes requires a sense of humor, according an investigation from Time regarding the upcoming film Fifty Shades of Grey.

The buzz surrounding the film has been largely dedicated to the intimate scenes between the two main characters, Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan) and Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson). According to the film’s director, Sam Taylor-Johnson, the most important element for these types of scenes is trust.

“But when it came to the day, it was the sudden realization of, ‘Oh, this is the day we’ve been discussing,'” Taylor-Johnson told Time. “I think the most important thing really was the sense of trust. The trust of how [cinematographer] Seamus [McGarvey] and I were going to shoot it. And the trust of Dakota in Jamie that he would take care of her, and the trust of Jamie in Dakota that she would take care of him. And that between us, this would be something not graphic—not porn, but much more sensuous.”

Head on over to Time to learn more about how the stars felt and the “unsexy” moments of these sensual scenes.
