'Funny Girls' brings female stand-up comics into the reality spotlight

Oxygen is planning the mash-up between The Hills and Last Comic Standing that you never knew you wanted.

The network has announced Funny Girls, a new docu-series that follows the lives of six female comics in Los Angeles as they put in the infamously difficult work at the bottom of the stand-up comedy ladder.

Premiering April 7 on Oxygen, Funny Girls will combine the girls’ onstage performances with their backstage lives and family relationships, which can often influence the very jokes they tell during their sets. Familiar faces like Margaret Cho, Janeane Garofalo, Bill Burr, Horatio Sanz, and Loni Love will appear throughout the series as guest mentors for the six budding comediennes.
