Supergirl has found its James Olsen.

Mehcad Brooks has been tapped to play DC Comics’ famed photographer in CBS’ superhero drama pilot, EW has learned.

The project stars Melissa Benoist as Kara Zor-El, who escaped Krypton amid its destruction years ago. Since arriving on Earth, she’s been hiding the powers she shares with her famous cousin. But now at age 24, she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be.

James Olsen—not Jimmy, like in the comics—is a photographer at CatCo, the media company where Kara works. He has recently been living and working in National City, through the reason is still a secret. James is also rumored to be a love interest for Kara.

In the comics, Olsen has typically appeared in Superman’s stories as a young photographer working for the Daily Planet, who happens to idolize Clark Kent and Lois Lane and generally has a good relationship with Superman.

True Blood‘s Brooks, whose credits also include Desperate Housewives and Necessary Roughness, follows in the footsteps of the other actors who have portrayed Jimmy Olsen, including Marc McClure (Superman: The Movie, Supergirl), Sam Huntington (Superman Returns), Justin Whalin (Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman) and Aaron Ashmore (Smallville).

Supergirl hails from Arrow and Flash executive producer Greg Berlanti and The New Normal’s Ali Adler, who will write and executive-produce with Sarah Schechter.
