Tom Cruise is in talks to reteam with Edge of Tomorrow helmer Doug Liman for Universal’s Mena, which tells the story of TWA pilot Barry Seal.
Seal was a pilot who after losing his job with TWA started smuggling drugs until for the Medellin Cartel under the alias Ellis Mackenzie McPickles until he was indicted in 1984. He was recruited later recruited by CIA to provide reconnaissance on the burgeoning communist threat in Central America. He then found himself in one of the biggest covert CIA operations in American history, one that spawned the birth of the Medellin cartel and eventually almost brought down the Reagan White House with the Iran Contra scandal.
Cross Creek Pictures’ Brian Oliver and Tyler Thompson will produce alongside Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer and Quadrant Pictures’ Doug Davison. Kim Roth will executive produce.
