R&B singer The Weeknd was arrested in Las Vegas early Saturday morning for punching a police officer.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department told EW that patrol officers responded to a 4:42 a.m. call on Saturday to assist special events officers on duty at the Cromwell Hotel, where a large “verbal or physical altercation” had broken out.
The special events officers were attempting to separate the crowd, when the officer who took the singer, born Abel Tesfaye, aside and allegedly received a punch to the head. The responding patrol officers helped to take the R&B artist into custody on the misdemeanor of battery of a protected person.
According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, he was released on bail.
Following his release, The Weeknd posted a picture on his Instagram of himself boarding a private jet with the caption, “escaped from Las Vegas.”
