Jeffrey Tambor just won the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a TV Comedy for his role in Transparent. Tambor has gained widespread critical acclaim for his portrayal of transgender matriarch Maura Pfefferman in the Amazon series. It’s his first Golden Globe win.
“This is big. This is much bigger than me,” said Tambor in a brief but heartfelt speech. “I would like to dedicate my performance, and this award, to the transgender community … Thank you for letting us be a part of the change.”
Tambor also thanked series creator Jill Soloway—an earlier winner for Best TV Series, Comedy or Musical—”for the gift, and the responsibility of Maura Pfefferman,” and joked about Amazon being “his new best friend.”
Tambor beat out Louis C.K., Don Cheadle, Ricky Gervais, and William H. Macy, for the award.
