Coming off the 2014 high of Lucy and Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Scarlett Johansson is becoming an action star in her own right. EW has confirmed that Johansson is set to star in the action film Ghost in the Shell, Dreamworks’ adaptation of the Japanese anime of the same name.
Created by Masamune Shirow and serialized in 1989, the Japanese manga follows the story of Motoko Kusanagi, a member of a covert counter cyber-terrorist organization, which specializes in fighting technology-related crime in mid-21st century Japan. The series was previously adapted into an animated film of the same name in 1995 with an animated sequel in 2004.
Snow White and the Huntsman’s Rupert Sanders is set to direct with a script by Bill Wheeler. Avi Arad and Steven Paul are producing with Mark Sourian executive producing.
