Most holiday-themed media likes to tell you that Christmas is the most wonderful time of year. But the occasional movie, song, or episode of TV is a little bit more honest about Christmas: Sometimes it sucks.

“Blue Christmas” (1957), Elvis Presley
“Blue Christmas” wasn’t originally Presley’s song—Doye O’Dell was actually the first to record it. But the King made it his own when he debuted his rendition of the somber track in 1957. Between the blue imagery, contrasted with a holiday defined by less-depressing greens and reds, and Presley’s admission that he’ll be pretty bummed on a holiday that’s supposed to be pretty happy, “Blue Christmas” perfectly captures holiday melancholy.
