James Franco and Jonah Hill go serious in 'True Story' trailer

Posted on

True Story

James Franco and Jonah Hill have tackled both comedic and dramatic roles, but there’s nary a laugh in sight in the This Is the End co-stars’ next project: True Story, in which Hill plays a journalist and Franco plays the murderer who stole his identity.

The film is based on a memoir by Michael Finkel (played by Hill in the film). Finkel was fired by The New York Times for fabrication around the same time that Christian Longo (Franco), accused of murdering his wife and three children, entered his life. Longo, who had gone missing following the murders, had assumed Finkel’s identity. The trailer highlights the complex relationship that develops between Finkel and Longo, who writes Finkel long letters. (For more on the story and its aftermath Finkel’s 2009 Esquire story is really worth a read. Spoiler alert, if you consider the details of past real-life events spoilers.)

The film, which also stars Felicity Jones, will have its premiere at this year’s Sundance Film Festival.
