[SPOILER ALERT: Read on only if you have already watched tonight’s episode of Survivor: San Juan del Sur.]
After they were eliminated first on their most recent Amazing Race adventure and then Nadiya was voted out first on Survivor: San Juan del Sur, the Anderson sisters’ reputation as reality show gamers was in serious jeopardy. But Natalie survived the ouster of her twin and then the ouster of her biggest ally Jeremy and tonight pulled off the move of the season so far—convincing Baylor and Missy to flip and vote out Jon (who just moments earlier had admitted that he was looking ahead and that “I think about that final speech quite a bit”).
All of sudden, Jon went from the big power player making all the decisions to joining the dude ranch that is the all-male jury. Sucks for him, but his pain is our gain as this big move completely shifts the game by eliminating the biggest threat to win. Jon also becomes the second person this season to voluntarily give up his reward to someone that would then vote him out at the very next Tribal Council. WHOOPS!
Elsewhere, Missy hurt her ankle in a nifty reward challenge designed by 13-year-old Survivor fan Austin Russell through the Make-a-Wish program. Dr. Ben made it seem like he was going to pull Missy from the game for medical treatment, but ultimately allowed her stay (although her challenge competing days could be over). After Natalie won immunity in a balance endurance contest, she got Missy on board for a split vote with two each on Jon, Jaclyn and Keith. Once Jon did not use his idol, they took him out on the revote, to which he probably responded “gee willikers.”
Natalie’s big move provides some much needed momentum to the season heading into next week’s three-hour finale and reunion. Can she pull off the upset? Here’s hoping so.
