Green Day announced that the band’s guitarist, Jason White, was diagnosed with a treatable form of tonsil cancer after a routine tonsillectomy.

The band wrote the following statement on their website:

“We have some news to report regarding our brother Jason White, and wanted you to hear it from us before word spread. Jason recently underwent a routine tonsillectomy, and his doctors discovered a treatable form of tonsil cancer. Thankfully they caught it early and he should make a full and speedy recovery.”

White joined the band in 1999 as a touring member of the group, and became an official member of the group in 2012. The band, which was formed in 1987, recently made it into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame list of nominees.
