Rapper Beanie Sigel was shot early Friday morning after an apparent fight outside his home in Pleasantville, New Jersey.
According to the Associated Press, Sigel, whose real name is Dwight Grant, was shot in the stomach, with the bullet exited out of his back, and is currently undergoing surgery. According to the AP, Sigel’s lawyer, Fortunato Perri Jr, says that Sigel had just taken his children to school and was an unintended target of the shooting. A second man, Umar Salahuddin, was injured in the altercation, but was not shot, and has been uncooperative with the police.
Sigel was serving the remainder of his two-year tax evasion sentence under home confinement when he was shot; the AP reports that he was scheduled to be released on Saturday. Sigel was previously shot in 2006 during a robbery in Philadelphia, and drove himself to the hospital.
Sigel also has a concert scheduled for Dec. 18 at the Theater of Living Arts in Philadelphia.
The Pleasantville Police Department and Sigel’s lawyer, Fortunato Perri Jr. did not immediately respond to EW’s request for comment.
