Lil Wayne’s been working with Bryan Williams (aka Birdman, aka Baby) and his Cash Money Records for his entire career, starting with a collaboration he recorded when he was only 11 years old, but in a series of tweets today the 32-year-old rapper announced his desire to split with the label, saying that he’s a “prisoner” and that Cash Money refuses to release his latest album, Tha Carter V, which was supposed to drop Dec. 9. “To all my fans,” he writes, “I want u to know that my album won’t and hasn’t been released bekuz Baby & Cash Money Rec. refuse to release it.”

“I am a prisoner,” he continues, “and so is my creativity[.]”

Wayne’s relationship with Baby is one of the most important in the rapper’s personal mythos. In 2006 the pair released a collaborative album, and they’ve made headlines for, among other things, being photographed kissing each other on the lips.
