Wale and Seinfeld argue like an old married couple in 'Complex' video

Seinfeld Wale The List

Last year, Washington D.C. rapper Wale placed a threatening phone call to Complex magazine after the publication left The Gifted off its year-end list of top albums. Now, Wale has made the Complex  cover—along with Jerry Seinfeld.

In a promotional video for the cover story, which is a conversation between the rapper and comedian, Wale and Seinfeld “recreate” a conversation they had 10 minutes before Wale’s incensed phone call. “Who is Jay Z?” Seinfeld asks. “What’s his last name? If he’s so good, what’s his last name? Is it Zimmerman? Is it some Jewish kid from Hewlett, Jay Zimmerman?”

The pairing isn’t as random as it seems. Wale’s 2008 The Mixtape About Nothing referenced Seinfeld and used samples from the show. Shortly after, Seinfeld arranged to see the rapper after a show, and the two became friends. Seinfeld appeared on The Gifted‘s “Outro About Nothing” and will feature prominently on the upcoming The Album About Nothing.
