As Tara on The Walking Dead, Alanna Masterson is the kind of person to whom people want to reveal things (well, at least Eugene). But we got Masterson to do the talking when she stopped by EW to take our Pop Culture Personality Test. Watch the video and read the transcript below to find out about her intense binge-watching habits, the movie her older brothers (including actors Danny, Christopher, and Jordan Masterson) encouraged her to watch too young, and when she plans to upgrade from a Hermione wand.
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: How serious are you when you binge watch?
Masterson: I did House of Cards binge-watching on Netflix, and it ruined my life for almost two weeks. ‘Cause one, I didn’t sleep. And then two, I kept seeing evil Kevin Spacey walking around me in the day. It was really bad. And I would have dreams about him in his Southern drawl. I scheduled my life around that. People would be like, “You want to go out tonight?” I’d be like, “Guys, I got a date with my TV. Gotta go.”
What R-rated movie did you see too young?
Fear. I was five. I have four older brothers, so I’ve seen a lot of things I shouldn’t have seen at a very young age. I remember being so traumatized after watching Fear. Reese Witherspoon will never be the same to me. He goes psychotic, Mark Wahlberg, then there’s the sexual stuff. And then he beats himself up. And then he carves the thing—it was really traumatizing. My brothers are the worst. Literally.
Which movie do you wish you could see again for the first time?
Probably Star Wars. I’m obsessed with Star Wars. I’m a crazy Star Wars fan. And I remember the feeling of first watching Star Wars and going, “Oh my god, what is this world?” But there’s a lot of movies like that. Avatar, same thing. What a weird, crazy movie. The Notebook, just so I can cry. Who doesn’t like to cry?
What’s your most prized pop-culture possession?
I’m obsessed with Harry Potter. I read all the books when I was a kid. Now I have all the books, all of them on tape, and then all of the movies. And I have a wand. A wizard wand. It’s Hermione’s wand. But when I go to Harry Potter World next year for my birthday, I’m gonna get my own wand.
Final score: Headed to Hogwarts
