The dark drama rises. After weeks of ratings declines, Fox’s Gotham reversed its trend and went up 9 percent Monday night.
Gotham had 6.5 million viewers and a 2.4 rating. The show also broke its usual crime-of-the-week format for a heavily serialized episode that gave more screen time than ever to fan favorite The Penguin. (In fact, the episode just happened to do many of the seven narrative improvements that we suggested last week). Yesterday the news also broke that the show was going to add the Scarecrow as a character (but as another kid instead of an adult). Gotham came in second place in the hour 8 p.m. hour in the demo. Gotham also topped CBS’ fellow Monday freshman drama Scorpion (10.3 million, 2.2) in the demo.
As for Fox’s Sleepy Hollow (4.5 million, 1.5), the fantasy drama slipped yet again — despite its lead-in from Gotham rising. Seriously, what is going on with this show?
But Ichabod had plenty of company — most shows were down this week, with all the shows on CBS and NBC slipping between 4 and 8 percent. Early ratings for ABC and The CW are impacted by local NFL preemptions.
