A classic 1 percent cartoon character is coming to Netflix. The streaming media company has ordered a live-action version of Richie Rich. Only in this adaptation, the world’s richest kid earned his money through his own endeavors.
In the Richie Rich comics dating back to 1953, Rich was the son of a wealthy industrialist. In the Netflix version, he invents and sells a “cool new green technology” that nets him a trillion dollars. “Richie moves into a decked-out mansion and instantly starts living the most awesome life ever,” reads the press release.
Netflix has ordered 21 episodes of Richie Rich, envisioned as a half-hour comedy and starring Jake Brennan (Dark Skies), along with Joshua Carlon, Jenna Ortega, Lauren Taylor, Kiff VandenHeuvel and Brooke Wexler. Brian Robbins (Awesomeness TV), Tim Pollock and Jeff Hodsden (The Suite Life of Zack and Cody) are executive producers.
In addition to the comics, Richie Rich inspired two animated series and a 1994 movie starring Macaulay Culkin
