On the Today show on Tuesday, Amy Poehler explained that this coming Golden Globes will be her and Tina Fey’s last time hosting the awards. “It’s law of diminishing returns, which is why this is our last time,” Poehler said. “Unless you want to be a perennial host, there’s nowhere to go but down.”
That would be a great theory, but their second time hosting led to a 10-year high in ratings for the show and featured one of the greatest George Clooney jokes ever, which almost topped the James Cameron joke from the previous year.
Poehler and Fey signed on to host two more years back in October 2013, following their successful first go-around. When asked by EW why they signed on for two more years, Poehler said, “We like the rule of threes.”
And maybe Fey and Poehler aren’t exactly done yet. “It will be like our farewell tour,” Poehler said. “We’ll be like the Jay Z of the Globes and never retire.”
