Was that the worst 'Survivor' lie ever?

Posted on

Well, that was something. It was quite an eventual episode of Survivor: San Juan del Sur tonight. My full recap will be up later [UPDATE: Dalton’s full Survivor recap is now live] , but to find out and sound off on what happened, read on for more. [SPOILER ALERT: Read on only if you have already watched Wednesday’s episode of Survivor: San Juan del Sur — Blood vs. Water.]

People go on Survivor and often lie about stupid stuff for no reason. I can’t tell you how players I’ve spoken with before the game that had some totally innocuous profession but decided to lie about it anyway — I guess because it made them feel super sneaky? But then there are other, bigger lies that can get you in trouble. This usually consists of telling one person one thing and another person another thing and getting busted for the double talk. That’s certainly understandable at times. Whatever. It happens. But then there is what Val did on tonight’s episode.

Seemingly for no reason whatsoever she started bragging to people about having two hidden immunity idols. Never mind for a second that such a statement this early in the game is borderline ludicrous. But even if Val did somehow inexplicably have two idols — which she did not — why would she want people to know that? All it does is make you the biggest target in the game. And that’s exactly what it did as Val was promptly voted out of the game after her bizarre disclosure.

To make matters worse for her, the guy she told she had two idols — John Rocker — then went and found one she was incapable of locating. And then he tattled about her bragging, which led to her being ousted by the tribe. (In all, Rocker didn’t have such a hot time either, losing both of his 1-on-1 challenges and perhaps losing the trust of his tribe as well after his schizophrenic back-and-forth. (He also looks to be in hot water with the other team after failing to protect Jeremy’s wife as promised.)

My full recap will be up soon, but you can sound off right here and right now in the message boards below as to what you thought of the episode. Was this the dumbest Survivor lie ever?
