From the looks of it, Paul Thomas Anderson and Joaquin Phoenix make one hell of a team.
On Monday, Warner Bros. delivered the first look at Inherent Vice, The Master pair’s highly anticipated—and, until now, highly secretive —reunion. The adaptation of Thomas Pynchon’s gonzo novel of the same name follows stoner P.I. Larry “Doc” Sportello (Phoenix) as he investigates the disappearance of his ex-girlfriend’s (Katherine Waterston) wealthy boyfriend. Josh Brolin stars as straight-laced LAPD detective Christian “Bigfoot” Bjornson, while Reese Witherspoon plays deputy DA Penny Kimball. Owen Wilson, Jena Malone, Joanna Newsom, and Benicio Del Toro also star.
Inherent Vice will premiere at the New York Film Festival on Oct. 4 and open in limited release on Dec. 12.
