See Reese Witherspoon and Joaquin Phoenix in 'Inherent Vice'

Posted on

We’ve already seen a glimpse of Joaquin Phoenix as Larry “Doc” Sportello, the stoner private investigator at the center of the much-anticipated adaptation of Thomas Pynchon’s Inherent Vice.

Now, Warner Bros. is slowly rolling out sneak peeks of the Paul Thomas Anderson-directed film, as a new photo in the L.A. Times showcases Reese Witherspoon sporting a major 1970’s bouffant with Phoenix’s central character in some real stoner-quality man sandals.

Witherspoon plays Penny Kimball, who is depicted in the book as a deputy DA who commits some illicit off-the-books activities with Doc as he investigates the disappearance of an ex-lover’s wealthy boyfriend in hazy 1970’s Southern California.

Inherent Vice will have its world premiere at the New York Film Festival on Oct. 4 and opens in limited release on Dec. 12.
