From the fictional town of Dillon, Texas, to a whole new fictional country—that seems to be the latest trajectory for Zach Gilford, who’s joined the cast of USA’s upcoming original drama pilot Stanistan.

But Gilford, who’s best known for his role as Matt Saracen on the television show Friday Night Lights, is not alone in his relocation. Desperate Housewives‘ Jonathan Cake also joins the Stanistan cast, which already features Dexter‘s Jennifer Carpenter as Public Affairs Officer Marcie Post.

More generally, “Stanistan follows the staff at the American compound in the fictional country of Stanistan, where State Department workers, covert CIA officers and journalists strike a delicate balance of danger and levity,” according to a press release.

Gilford will be playing Phillip Guthrey, an Infrastructure Manager for USAID and Marcie’s closest friend (though he’d like it to be more). Meanwhile, Cake will play Greg Weir, “a suave a fearless on-air foreign correspondent who is entangled in a complicated affair with Marcie, but his quest to uncover the real story in war-torn Stanistan will put him and his relationship in danger.” And just like that, we’ve already got a love triangle on our hands.

Stanistan is written by Andy Parker.
