The first trailer for James Franco and Seth Rogen’s The Interview set up the pair’s government-funded trip to North Korea to assassinate Kim Jong Un. But why were the two chosen for such a mission? The film’s first red-band trailer explains why, and the answer is expectedly absurd.
Franco plays tabloid TV show host Dave Skylark, of whom Kim is a fan in the film. Skylark and his producer Aaron Rapoport (Rogen) are invited to interview Kim Jong Un in Korea, but their trip is co-opted and turned into an assassination mission by the United States government. The red-band trailer shows more of how that mission came to be, and is as filthy as viewers might expect from the team behind This Is the End and Neighbors.
Tired of telling celebrity stories, like Rob Lowe male-pattern baldness revelations and Nicki Minaj nude scandals, the two eagerly accept the mission but will likely prove to be woefully out of their element when the film, directed by Evan Goldberg and Rogen and written by Dan Sterling, releases on Dec. 25.
