Modern Family‘s Ty Burrell won the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy on Monday for his role as Phil Dunphy.

Accepting the award, Burrell said he’d written a speech—but, he added, “apparently the kids of Modern Family wrote one for me too.” Switching to their script, he said, “I should probably thank my wife because she’s super pretty,” and added a thank-you to his real-life children. “They’re definitely cute,” Burrell read from the Modern Family actors’ script. “They’re just not I-can-support-my-whole-family cute.”

The other nominees in the category were Andre Braugher (Brooklyn Nine Nine), Fred Armisen (Portlandia), Adam Driver (Girls), Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Modern Family), and Tony Hale (Veep).
