During rehearsals for Sunday night’s MTV Video Music Awards, a backup dancer for Nicki Minaj’s scheduled performance of her booty anthem “Anaconda” was allegedly bitten by a large snake that was to be included in the performance.
As first reported by TMZ and spotted by People, the injured dancer was reportedly taken to the hospital to prevent bacterial infection; the snake being used wasn’t venomous but can transmit infections.
No word on whether or not the snake will continue to remain a part of the performance. But if it does, it’ll mark a pretty big comeback for snakes—the last time the reptiles made VMA headlines was 13 years ago, in Britney Spears 2001 performance of “I’m a Slave 4 U,” which also featured a tiger.
Elsewhere in pre-VMA hijinks: According to The Wrap, Iggy Azalea fell off the stage during a pre-VMAs show Friday night. The rapper sustained no serious injuries, and was pretty good-natured about the whole thing, even posting the incident on her Instagram profile:
