Brooklyn duo BLKKATHY sit at a unique confluence of R&B, experimental electronic music, and K Records-brand eccentric indie pop. Added together, it’s a bit like a more accessible, less aggressively quirky tUnE-yArDs—combined with lyrics that are by turn emotionally raw and mordantly funny. There’s a lot on their SoundCloud that can “make your booty bounce and ruin your makeup,” per their mission statement.

The pair’s latest single, “Rob You,” makes for a great introduction. With its singsongy hooks, confessional but funny lyrics, and gently bouncing beat, it sounds a little something like Bratmobile reincarnated as a contemporary avant-R&B band. It’s available for purchase at iTunes, and for streaming here.
