Universal acquires rights to Anne Rice's 'The Vampire Chronicles'

More vampires could be headed to the big screen.

EW has confirmed that Universal Pictures acquired the rights to Anne Rice’s The Vampire Chronicles series for Imagine Entertainment and Brian Grazer. The rights include all of the existing novels as well as any future novels in the series, even including the adapted screenplay for Tale of the Body Thief, which was written by Rice’s son Christopher Rice. Also included are Interview with the Vampire and the upcoming Prince Lestat.

Alex Kurtzman and Robert Orci are set to produce, with Bobby Cohen on board to executive produce. President of Imagine Entertainment Erica Huggins will oversee the series, according to a press release.
