Quentin Coldwater has battled demons, watched his girlfriend die (sorta), and saved magic as we know it β€” only to be kicked out of the fantasy realm he once ruled. But in the last installment of Time book critic Grossman’s Magicians trilogy, he does something even more remarkable: He matures. The Magician’s Land finds Quentin jobless, desperate, and pushing 30, but his luck changes when he’s recruited to help steal a mysterious briefcase. The narrative cuts between Quentin’s heist and the fanciful land of Fillory, in peril once more β€” and though the plot’s a bit too familiar and the final third is rushed, Land still brings the magician’s adventures to a satisfying conclusion.
