• Kristin Wiig is set to make her directorial debut on an untitled buddy comedy that she and her Bridesmaids co-scribe Annie Mumolo will write together. The story is about “best friends who find themselves in over their heads and out of their depths, which were, perhaps, not too deep to begin with.” Wiig will also star in the pic, which TriStar chairman Tom Rothman joked will be “a searing and depressing drama, which is what the world needs right now.” [New York Times]

• Oprah Winfrey will portray civil rights leader Annie Lee Cooper in Selma, Ava DuVernay‘s drama about Martin Luther King Jr.’s voting rights campaign. David Oyelowo, Winfrey’s co-star in Lee Daniels’ The Butler, stars as MLK. [The Wrap]

• Kylie Minogue has boarded San Andreas in a secretive role. The Brad Peyton-directed earthquake pic stars Dwayne Johnson as a firefighter who treks from Los Angeles to San Francisco with his ex-wife (Carla Gugino) to rescue their daughter. Minogue is no stranger to acting. The pop star has also appeared in 2001’s Moulin Rouge! and 2012’s Holy Motors. [THR]

• Adam DeVine (Pitch Perfect) will play one of Robert De Niro‘s fellow interns in The Intern. Anne Hathaway will play an executive at the company in the Nancy Meyers-directed comedy. [Deadline]

Character actor Brian Cox (Braveheart) will play a military man in Pixels, a comedy adventure starring Adam Sandler as a video game champion who’s called upon for his outdated expertise when aliens attack Earth using strategies from 1980s games. Chris Columbus is directing the pic, which is set for a June start. [THR]
