Samuel L. Jackson has been in most of the blockbuster Avengers-universe movies, but even Nick Fury can’t compete with the superhero ubiquity of Stan Lee. The comic book legend has had winking cameos in 18 different Marvel movies since X-Men premiered in 2000, but he’s usually limited himself to movies based on characters he helped create. Well, that’s about to change.
The 91-year-old former Marvel editor told a panel audience at the c2e2 convention in Chicago on Sunday that he’s blessing Guardians of the Galaxy with another random appearance. “I did [the filming], already,” he said at the panel, according to Variety, responding to a question about a potential cameo in James Gunn’s summer movie. “I can’t tell you what it is, but I can tell you I do not understand what it was or why I did it. It has me with a girl — a very pretty girl — that’s all I can tell you.”
Earlier this year, Lee told DweebCast that he wasn’t planning to appear in Guardians, primarily because he didn’t play a role in creating the comic book characters. “I’m not even sure who they all are,” he said.
Disney, who’s distributing Guardians of the Galaxy on Aug. 1, did not immediately respond to EW’s request for comment.
