Watch the first seven minutes of the new FX drama 'Fargo'

Aw, jeez — there’s trouble in Minnesota again. And FX is giving us a sneak peek of what’s brewing.

The network’s hotly anticipated new anthology series Fargo — a dark comedy inspired by the Academy Award-winning Coen brothers film of the same name — isn’t set to premiere until April 15. Thankfully, the network has released the first seven minutes of writer Noah Hawley’s adaptation of the cult hit, which features a new story and characters.

It’s not the pilot’s strongest seven minutes, but the excerpt still gives a fair introduction of what’s to come: lots of starkly beautiful shots of Alberta, Canada (the stand-in for Bemidji), as well as those Minnesota accents and colloquialisms made famous in the film. We also meet Billy Bob Thornton’s dangerous drifter and Martin Freeman’s emasculated family man, whose stories quickly intertwine as the action picks up. Take a look:

Fargo premieres April 15 at 10 p.m. on FX.
