Tom Brokaw, who anchored NBC Nightly News from 1982 to 2004, revealed Tuesday he has been diagnosed with cancer.
According to NBC News, Brokaw, 74, was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in August. Despite the seriousness of Brokaw’s illness, the statement he released Tuesday revealed a positive prognosis:
“With the exceptional support of my family, medical team and friends, I am very optimistic about the future and look forward to continuing my life, my work and adventures still to come,” the statement read. “I remain the luckiest guy I know. I am very grateful for the interest in my condition but I also hope everyone understands I wish to keep this a private matter.”
