Studying Beyonce for college credit? If you happen to be enrolled at Rutgers University, you’ll soon be able to register for a course that focuses on Queen Bey and her music.

Kevin Allred, a PhD student who lectures for the Department of Women’s and Gender Studies at the New Jersey-based university, will helm the new course called “Politicizing Beyonce.” According to the university, the class will focus on the entertainer’s career and use that to “explore American race, gender, and sexual politics.” Additionally, students who enroll will compare and contrast the singer’s lyrics to writings of the Black Feminist movement while exploring the control Beyonce has over her own image.

“While other artists are simply releasing music, she’s creating a grand narrative around her life. Her career, and her persona,” said Allred while speaking with Rutgers Today. “It’s important to shift students away from simply being consumers of media toward thinking more critically about what they’re engaging in on a regular basis.”
