Emmys to be held a month earlier and on a MONDAY

Posted on

The Emmys are moving to August.

Which is no surprise.

And the Emmys are moving to a Monday.

Which is a total surprise. That last time the Emmys aired on a Monday was in 1976.

NBC’s telecast of the 66th Primetime Emmys is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 25, 2014 live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. That’s about a month earlier than last year — the 65th Emmys were held on Sept. 22. But such a move is typical for when NBC airs the show, since the network has Sunday Night Football and wants to avoid a conflict. NBC aired the awards ceremony in August in 2006 and 2010.

So why Monday? Sort of the same reason, says an NBC representative. The Creative Arts Emmys are already locked into running the previous weekend. The prime-time awards always happen the next weekend. But with NBC running at least three pre-season Sunday Night Football games in August and the NFL schedule not yet released, the network is trying to avoid potentially having a conflict by scheduling the Emmys on a Monday.

At any rate, you don’t have to DVR this for awhile, so don’t worry about it too much.
