The fashion world had plenty of high moments this year, but let’s face it, it’s more fun to reminisce about the lowest low moments.

Luckily, there were plenty of fashion faux pas committed in 2013.

From Elle magazine’s Melissa McCarthy cover-up to the Jay-Z and Barneys backlash, and Julianne Hough’s regrettable Halloween costume, read on to see the style headlines that got people talking… and not in a good way.

Julianne Hough learns (the hard way) that orange is NOT the new blackface

The former Dancing with the Stars cast member sparked outrage when she dressed up as Orange Is the New Black character Suzanne “Crazy Eyes” Warren — complete with blackface makeup — for Halloween. “It certainly was never my intention to be disrespectful or demeaning to anyone in any way. I realize my costume hurt and offended people and I truly apologize,” Hough tweeted. It’s not even a very good costume, since Crazy Eyes preferred the khaki-hued prison garb over the orange jumpsuit in season 1.
