Sarah Jessica Parker is not Carrie Bradshaw, but that doesn’t mean the lines don’t blur a little bit — especially when shoes are involved.
In a new reality show, city.ballet, premiering Nov. 4 on AOL, Parker takes audiences into the world of the New York City Ballet. The idea of a reality show about a well-respected institution like the New York City Ballet and its dancers might seem like a bit of an oxymoron, but through Parker’s guidance and the cooperation of the Ballet, city.ballet hopes to give an unparalleled look at the lives of professional dancers — right down to their blisters and bloody feet.
It’s not the poppy confection of Center Stage, the hellish nightmare of Black Swan, the surrealist fantasy of The Red Shoes, or a tawdry, exploitative reality show. It’s just real, and it proves that the lives of these dancers are difficult enough without manufactured drama of reality television (or the threat of black feathers sprouting through their backs).
Take a look at two exclusive clips from city.ballet below — one has ballet master in chief Peter Martins explaining the stakes, and the other shows Parker having a Carrie Bradshaw moment in a closet full of pointe shoes.
