Well, fangirls, it’s time for an “S.O.S.” The Jonas Brothers have officially (definitely) broken up. One day after announcing their breakup following weeks of speculation and confusion when the band’s Twitter page was deleted and the cancellation of their 19-day tour, the New Jersey natives sat down with Good Morning America‘s Robin Roberts to discuss their future plans and the truth behind the “deep rift” between them.
“I feel like we’ve had some complications within the group for a long time without addressing them.” Nick, 21, said, acknowledging that he was the one to initiate the talk. “It was a tough conversation. It was the first time we really had that real conversation.”
The Jonas Brothers have released four albums since 2006, selling upward of 20 million records. A fifth album, V, was scheduled for release this year. “The album will not be completed,” Kevin, 25, revealed. “But we’re going to be doing something for our fans. They have traveled with us and been with us for so many years, we didn’t want to leave without giving them back something.” The group will release four yet-unheard tracks already recorded for the album and live recordings from their last summer tour, about 10 tracks altogether.
Regarding the “deep rift” between the group, middle brother Joe, 24, claimed, “It was just individual things that we were just butting heads about, whether it was the way to set up the music video or even just personal opportunities. At some point we decided it was best to finish this and support each other on our own ventures along the way.”
Those ventures will include more music for Joe and Nick, who have already released solo albums, and becoming a father for Kevin, who starred with wife Danielle on the E! reality show Married to Jonas and announced their pregnancy in July.
Whether the band will ever get back together is still unclear. “I think it’s impossible to say ‘forever’ with anything,” said Nick. “I feel like we’re playing it one step at a time right now and, like we said, rebuilding as brothers first and starting there.” If Justin Beiber taught us anything, it’s never say never.
