Bringing an eyewitness account of war to life, Lone Survivor will make its world premiere at the AFI Fest on Nov. 12. Starring Mark Walhberg, the Pete Berg-directed film is based on the autobiography of Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell, who was part of a team sent into Afghanistan on a mission to kill a Taliban leader. Lone Survivor will have a limited theatrical release starting Dec. 27. The film opens wide on Jan. 10, 2014.

Joining Lone Survivor at the festival is August: Osage County, starring Julia Roberts and Meryl Streep, and a special gala screening of Bernardo Bertolucci’s The Last Emperor 3D.

The festival opens Nov. 7 with the premiere of Disney’s Saving Mr. Banks, starring Tom Hanks. Inside Llewyn Davis is the closing night film on Nov. 14. The 2013 AFI Fest runs from Nov. 7-14 in Los Angeles.
