Red carpet season officially kicks off this Sunday at the Primetime Emmys, but last night’s Creative Arts Emmys was a dress rehearsal of sorts for stars like Heidi Klum, Cat Deeley, and Carrie Preston.

How did they do? It was all there in black and white (and a little red).

Get the style highlights from the Creative Arts Emmys and cast your vote for Best Dressed after the jump.

Project Runway host Heidi Klum — who shared the Emmy for Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality-Competition Program with Tim Gunn — wore a black-and-white graphic print Roland Mouret gown, earrings and a black diamond cocktail ring from jeweler Lorraine Schwartz , and Jimmy Choo sandals. Before hitting the red carpet, Klum offered a view of her gown from the back via Twitter.

Malin Akerman reveled in the glory of the Children’s Hospital win for Outstanding Special Class – Short-Format Live-Action Entertainment Programs in a vintage Victor Costa gown and diamond jewelry from Neil Lane. “The Real trophywife #childrenshospital #creativeartsemmys,” she Tweeted.

So You Think You Can Dance host Cat Deeley (in Badgley Mischka) side slit ivory Badgley Mischka Fall 2013 gown teamed with Jimmy Choo gold sandals and clutch Le Vian earrings and a ring from Demarco. “Pre Emmy’s snack…..Apparently NOT to be trusted in a white dress!” Deeley tweeted, posting a photo that showed how she avoided staining her dress while indulging in a pre-show meal.

One of the few stars to wear a bold color — and a short hemline — Lake Bell stood out in a Lanvin dress, shoes and bag, which she accessorized with Loree Rodkin jewelery.

True Blood star Carrie Preston — who won the Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for her role on The Good Wife — wore a dramatic gown and cape by designer Mako Takada. “Me: Whatcha wanna do today? Michael: how bout the #CreativeArtsEmmys? Me: Sure lemme throw sumthin on #MakoTakada,” the flame-haired actress tweeted, posting a photo of she and husband Michael Emerson.
