There’s more to the Reddit-spawned idea than that, of course. ”Walt has a habit of taking on some little traits of the people he has killed,” a fan with the handle Bob Ducca explained on The Straight Dope, an online message board. ”When Walt killed [Krazy 8], he started cutting off the crusts of his sandwiches — just as [Krazy 8] had done.” The evidence goes on: Walt ditches his Aztec for a Volvo, à la the late Gus. Rather than taking his alcohol neat, Walt now likes it on the rocks, just as Mike used to.
And in a flash-forward from the premiere of the first half of season 5, Walt celebrates his 52nd birthday alone at a Denny’s, where he arranges his bacon strips into his age — an annual tradition normally performed by Skyler. He also carries a fake ID that uses Skyler’s maiden name, Lambert. Does this mean she’ll soon be six feet under?
It’s an interesting idea, but the theory is far from airtight. For instance, one habit Walt supposedly picked up from Gus — folding a towel under his knees before vomiting in the toilet — happened when they were in separate countries, so Walt would not have even known about the ritual. Plus, there are several victims (Tyrus; Hector Salamanca; Jane, if you count her) whom Walt hasn’t mimicked. As fun as it is to predict how it’ll all end, there’s really no way to know whose door will get knocked on, and who will do the knocking.
