Reviews of new songs from Eminem and Daft Punk

Posted on

Eminem, ”Survival”
On the first new song to come from his just-announced eighth album, the son of Detroit spits reflectively, ”If I don’t have enough gas in the tank, maybe I can just siphon enough.” Unfortunately, this guitar-wailing Humvee of a track — aggressive, lazy, and more than a little gaudy — is running on half-empty. Upgrade to a Prius already, Em! CRay Rahman

Daft Punk Feat. Pharrell, ”Lose Yourself To Dance”
As with Song of Summer silver medalist ”Get Lucky,” Daft Punk shortened the album version of another Pharrell team-up to conquer the radio. Even in more efficient form, its measured thrust isn’t quite hot enough to earn that lyric about wiping off sweat. Which is great news for dance-club janitors, but vaguely disappointing for the rest of us. B-Kyle Anderson
