Dennis Farina, who died Monday at age 69, had a lot of jobs during his 30-plus years as an actor — from 1988’s Midnight Run to his stint as Nick’s dad on New Girl just last year. But one of his most high-profile gigs was his two seasons as Det. Joe Fontana on NBC’s Law & Order, taking over for the late Jerry Orbach.
The show’s creator and executive producer, Dick Wolf, sent a statement to EW following Farina’s death:
“I was stunned and saddened to hear about Dennis’ unexpected passing this morning,” Wolf said in the statement. “The Law & Order family extends sympathy and condolences to his family. He was a great guy.”
