In the case of Syfy’s buzzed about TV-movie Sharknado, there is no such thing as calm before or after the storm. Less than a week after the premiere of the shark-attack disaster film, the cable network has already announced a sequel, Sharknado 2, for 2014.
“The fans are clamoring for a sequel. Or perhaps it will be a prequel. What we can guarantee is that Sharknado 2 will be lots of fun,” said Thomas Vitale, Syfy’s executive vice president of programming and original movies, in a statement.
With nearly 5,000 tweets per minute during its airing, the campy flick, starring Ian Ziering and Tara Reid, received astonishing amounts of social media attention. And Syfy is putting the #Sharknado Twitter storm to good use — fans can actually tweet ideas for a “Sharknado 2:” subtitle at @SyfyMovies, using the #Sharknado hashtag. Similarly to Sharknado’s “Enough said” tag line, the winning tweet will be featured as the slogan for the second installment. Start tweeting, fans!
