A hotel employee allegedly found fewer than 5 grams of marijuana in Joel Madden’s Sydney, Australia, hotel room, according to The Sydney Morning Herald. Police were contacted Sunday, but Madden was not charged.
The Morning Herald noted that authorities can simply issue a warning when small amounts of drugs are found. However, he was asked to leave the Darling Hotel, per the company’s policy.
The Good Charlotte frontman commented on the incident on his Tumblr, writing:
Sunday while I was at work, a hotel employee found a small amount of marijuana in my hotel room. The police were called and responded. Sydney is is [sic] my adopted home and I appreciate the way the [New South Wales] police handled the situation. They have informed me there will be no charges. I hope this didn’t cause too much drama for anyone.
Madden is working in Sydney as a coach on The Voice Australia.
