Having a moment: Andrea Riseborough

After recent turns in two indies and the Tom Cruise vehicle ”Oblivion,” the British actress will star opposite Clive Owen in ”Shadow Dancer” (out May 31).

WOMAN ON THE MOVE

Riseborough, 31, has been working nonstop since starring in Madonna’s 2011 drama W.E. And this spring, with four movies released back-to-back — Disconnect, Welcome to the Punch, Oblivion, and Shadow Dancer — she hasn’t seen much of Boise, Idaho, where she resides with her artist boyfriend. ”We live in the forest with the coyotes, the elk, and the Christmas trees,” she says. ”But I get home very rarely because I’m always on set. It’s the life of a gypsy, to be an actor.”

IN THE BIG LEAGUES

Oblivion was Riseborough’s biggest movie to date, and the actress couldn’t help but be impressed by Cruise: ”Despite his phenomenal success, he still has a hunger to be ever-evolving and is always open to trying new things.”

TOP SECRET HOMEWORK

For Shadow Dancer, in which she plays an IRA terrorist–turned–MI5 informant, Riseborough shuttled back and forth from Dublin (where the movie was shot) to Belfast, where she discreetly met with veterans of the Troubles. ”I can’t be very specific because I wouldn’t want to jeopardize the people I met,” she says. ”But many were very kind and helped me figure out exactly who [my character] might be.”

OBLIVION TO OBLIVIOUS

Riseborough is currently shooting Alejandro González Iñárritu’s Birdman, a black comedy featuring Michael Keaton as a movie star transitioning from superhero blockbusters to Broadway. She plays Keaton’s ”very young and sometimes clueless L.A. girlfriend,” who is ”a woman with virtually no boundaries,” the actress says. ”She has no filter when she opens her mouth. She’s sexual and driven and is such a fun character to play.”
